The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet (DNO&B) is now in its fourth year in the magnificent new building on the Oslowaterfront. The award winning opera house has been enthusiastically received by stalwarts and newcomers alike, and the DNO&B has become a cultural cornerstone in the Norwegian society. The challenge for the coming years is to secure this unprecedented success, through uncompromising artistic quality, while maintaining a wide range of activities and high output. The DNO&B employs a total of 620 people full time, with a further 1200 on short term contracts in any given year. Turnover in the current year is 635 mill NOK, including a government grant of 490 mill NOK. Box office admissions in 2010 exceeded 290.000, while about 2 million people visited the opera house in the course of the year. As the sole national institution within its art forms, DNO&B is also a designated resource center contributing actively to regional opera and ballet production throughoutNorway.
